Swedish news site to add Flattr

We all have cravings for news, stories about what’s happening in the world around us is crucial to our understanding of both ourself and other people. We also know that the news industry is struggling to make money online. This is of course something we want to help fixing.

Therefore we’re happy to announce that the Swedish digital only news site Nyheter24 has implemented Flattr to all their articles.

To promote Flattr to readers they’ve added a nice graphic element above the Flattr button. Really smart, as a a way to communicate what Flattr is.

Nyheter24 has decided to give the money they make to charity. Each journalist decide which organization should get the money for flatters to their texts.

Nice one!

  1. Nice one indeed!

I asked myself quite often why newspapers or magazines hesitate to try out Flattr. At least those who only exist online (such as thelocal.se) should give it a try.

Do you guys at Flattr approach journalistic publications such as newspapers, news sites or magazines?

    Keep up the great work!

  2. Matthias,
It’s really exciting times in the newspaper world. Everybody is still thinking about how to make money on the web. It’s a hard nut to crack, meaning now is a great time to experiment with new ideas. We are working on some ideas to make Flattr even more useful in this context. Stay tuned.

  3. A great french IT news site i love, http://www.pcinpact.com is struggling with its business model
We asked them to implement flattr but they say that in France, it is illegal for company to receive donations and thus flattr.

So how do news sites can use Flattr in such countries ?
